Frequently asked questions

  • What is sugar fondant?

Sugar fondant is like edible play doh. I use it to cover cakes, cupcakes and cookies and make decorations. With food coloring gel you can make any color and with some practice any shape. I use cookie cutters, punchers and shaping tools but mostly just my hands to create the figurines.

  • How to cut a round cake?

The best way to cut your cake is to first divide it into two equal parts, then cut the two halves in two, so you have 4 quarters. Now you can cut the quarters in 3 (cake with 12 pieces) or 4 (cake with 16 pieces). Like this everybody gets equal portions of the cake and the decoration.

  • How to cut a tier cake

Stacked cakes are divided with a cake round so you can remove the first cake before you cut it. Be sure to remove the supporting plastic dowels in the bottom tier before you serve the cake.

  • How to store your decorated cake?

You can leave your cake, cupcakes and cookies on the table or on your countertop during the party where everybody can enjoy them. Don’t put your decorated cake in the refrigerator, and don’t seal it completely from air, the sugar fondant will take up the moisture and will start to melt. You can keep your cake 2 to 3 days. A plain cake can be kept in the refrigerator for about 3 days.

  • Cake, cookies, or cupcakes? What should I order?

Whatever you like, but why not a cake, some cupcakes and individually wrapped cookies to hand out when your guests go home? This will give your party that something special.
